Thinking Ahead

Thinking ahead is an important concept in limit poker. Calling a bet post flop is easy for $2, but calling a turn bet of $4, you have to think about the river bet also. If you’re on a draw and the pot is large enough, it’s not so hard. But let’s say you have A10 on a board of K 10 7 2 and your facing a bet. Before you call you have to think about if you’re going to call a river bet, if you miss. The odds will probably dictate that you should, so it’s really going to cost you $8 and not $4. Calling and then folding the river will cost you money. So, if putting in $8 doesn’t make sense, it’s best to just give up the hand.
